I'm setting a course for an event on someone else's map. They have sent me the map file, but it is in OCAD 10 format and my OCAD 8 can't open it.

How can I convert the file to OCAD 10 format ?

The short answer is that you can't.

The only way I know to do this is to send the file to someone with OCAD 10 or later and ask them to open the file and save it as an OCAD 8 file, then return it to you.

Update on this - you can now open OCAD 10 files in Open Orienteering Mapper (http://sourceforge.net/projects/oorienteering/?source=dlp) and that seems to load pretty well.
If you then save as an OCAD file from within OO Mapper, you get an OCAD 8 file.
